I wrote this poem when I was 17. It was an assignment for English class. Thirty years later I turned it into a book called I'm Awful Glad I'm Not A Bug. Now it has been remastered with the illustrations done by my daughter, Zoe.
I’m Kat McMann, an Irish girl who was born in the 60’s and raised in a small town (Kennebunk, Maine) with my mother, father and younger brother.
We had a dog and cats and a garden out back. I had a paper route, a guinea pig, chores and a whole street of kids to play with.
I was a clarinet player and loved to roller skate, skateboard and ride my bike.
Then, my parents bought a farm, just after I started high school and we moved out of town.
It was there I became a farm girl; a farm girl who fed livestock, plucked chickens, and stacked wood. I also found a whole road of new kids to play with and my best friend for life.
Graduating in the 80’s, I went on to a business college in Boston and worked in the accounting field for 25 years.
Though good with numbers, words have always been my passion.
I have always dreams of being a writer. I am so excited to share my stories with you!
A sweet little nursery song I wrote.
